Opioids and Benzodiazepines – Safety Communication
August 31, 2016 – The FDA announced that Boxed Warnings will be added to the drug labels for opioids, prescription opioid cough medicines, and benzodiazepines (BZDs), stating that the combined use of these products or other drugs that depress the central nervous system (CNS) has resulted in serious side effects, including slowed or difficult breathing and deaths.
